Interviews and Conventions, Oh My! Here’s What I’ve Been Up To

Is this thing on? I know, it’s been a while since my last update but I have great news to share! Back in August, I transitioned from freelancer to assistant editor at The Mary Sue. If you’re into geeky things from a feminist perspective, check out our site. I’ve written essays like this one on Tim Burton’s predominately white films. I’ve also spoken to some wonderful people including Marvel producer Victoria Alonso and Vampire Diaries star Candice King. Oh, and did I mention I’ll be writing about some of my favorite shows for PopSugar?! I can’t tell you how excited I am about everything right now.

I also attended DragonCon and got to speak with Felicia Day and Alan Tudyk about their mobile game Con Man. I also went to New York Comic-Con for the first time and dove right back into on-air reporting. I’ll have to upload photos of all the great cosplayers I saw at some point but for now, check out these videos from the event.

My journey to NYC has been hectic and unpredictable, but now it looks like I’m finally settling in. Can’t wait to show you all the amazing things coming up.

@Thisfunktional Attends ‘COMPADRES’ Press Day, Red Carpet Premiere

By Jesus Figueroa

Pantelion Films’ Compadres shows a different performance from actor Omar Chaparro in a different way than he is usually seen in other movies he’s been in. Chaparro and Joey Morgan work off each other well for the comedic elements in the movie, but its the serious action which is what’s impressive about Chaparro’s performance.

“We were rehearsing for 3 months,” Chaparro said. It was important to him to get into physical conditioning to play an action hero. He trained in boxing and Krav Maga to be able to be well trained. Along with the two male leads, Aislinn Derbez and Camila Sodi were able to add an element which neither Chaparro and Morgan could, they added some tough, strong female characters.

Mike ‘the movie guy’ Movie Review: They’re Watching

After the wifey, son and dog all went to bed – I washed off all the cooties 🚿…climbed into bed…and started…THEY’RE WATCHING. 🤓
Here’s what the movie’s about…

📽 “When an American home improvement TV show visits a remote Eastern European village, the young crew thinks the lack of mocha lattés and free wifi will be the worst of their problems. But after their filming interrupts the superstitious villagers’ private religious ritual, the situation takes a turn for the homicidal… and when the blood starts flowing, that’s when things get really weird. With THEY’RE WATCHING, noted graphic novelists and animators Micah Wright and Jay Lender turn a classic horror premise upside down to create a fresh, funny, eye-popping twist on the genre.” 📽

What did I think of THEY’RE WATCHING? 🤔
